Une Grande Soirée Française à The Mount

Michelle and Augustin pulled out all the stops for their wedding celebration at The Mount on a cool, rainy early summer evening.  Celebratory oranges and reds were the colors of the night.

The bride’s and groom’s careers in the international fashion industry have them hopping the Atlantic regularly. He is French, she is American; and this raucous crowd was a huge mix of their friends and family from both sides of the pond. They leapt onto chairs to cheer and wave their napkins as flags when Michelle and Augustin arrived at the gorgeous sailcloth tent awaiting them on the beautiful grounds of Edith Wharton’s estate.

Guests enjoyed the festivities in the lap of luxury despite intermittent downpours.  Though the grass outside was soaking wet, the couple’s family and friends stayed dry dancing the night away on a beautiful vintage barnboard floor under a gorgeous sailcloth canopy of color.  Bright northern skylight illuminated the tent from the outside at the beginning of the evening, mixing additively with my stage lighting to create a light white visual field overhead that had just subtle hints of color and texture that would emerge dramatically after dark.

Flowers, linens, lighting, and other décor featured bright oranges, symbolic of love, happiness, humility, and good health in eastern cultures.

The dance floor too was awash in the colors of happiness and health.  Subtle ambers and golds early in the evening gave way to deep oranges and reds as the music intensified.

This may well have been the most raucous crowd of young people I’ve ever had the pleasure of watching from the sidelines.  Amazing energy, lust for life, unabashed silliness, and–as you can see–a healthy dose of good old-fashioned testosterone coursed through the crowd all night. Il n’y a rien comme le zeste français pour la vie. Voilà comment vivre !
